best show ever!

NAN GOLDIN with PATRICK WOLF & JOHN KELLY @ The Tate Modern 24May2008
I'll let my man give the review

Quite simply the most beautiful concert I've ever been to. Patrick completely nailed it from start to finish and his songs all entirely worked with Goldin's amazing photos. It was breathtaking and nearly everyone around me was sobbing their heart out. Left me feeling very emotionally raw and yet at the same time absolutely in love with life. Isn't that what good music is about? Thank you so much for this Patrick. You continue to grow as an artist and we were so lucky to have you perform in such an amazing space. It would be absolutely amazing if your record company would consider releasing last night as a short live concert. Last night will stay with me forever.

I was one of the lads crying after this show. Nan Goldin's graphic images completely touched me. I shed tears for my sweet sister who died from a heroin overdose and the too many brothers i've lost to Aids. I'm was happy to be sad - music is still the most powerful drug. Patrick Wolf is a musical visionary. Check out all of his albums. His cover of this track was mesmerizing.

The Ting Tings, London Astoria May 22

(ok not really on the smack thing) Some great live acts this week. Two hot sold out shows: MGMT totes rocked out - becoming "wolfmother fronted by Rufus Wainwright" - noice!. The Ting Tings are the cutest/newest nu two piece. A transformative happy experience... let's hope they dont lose it with the weight of Sony on their shoulders. Check em before the crack out. Last night I was a proud uncle seeing the Midnight Juggernauts break all the hearts of the young ladies (and a few bears) of London. Look out for "into the galaxy" remixes coming from Metronomy and Afrika Bambaataa. Go lads! Tonight Patrick Wolf sings to Nan Goldin slides at the Tate modern. See - keeping my gay on!

look! up in the sky!

Apparently summer is on its way over here. Hurry up already. I have a disproportionate amount of tshirts to jackets. It's been chilly, grey and c c c c c cold. This afternoon this great bust of light broke through the clouds (only for a moment) a homeless guy on the street started clapping and people looked towards the heavens as if it was time of the rapture. I need some vitamin d pretty please.

"i took the tube over to Camden to wander around..."

All's well in the U.K!

Arrived safely - thanks to my pal Keith who bounced me up into the first class lounge in Sydney and Singapore. First class lounge is full of executive 'mos! Still, nothing better than a good feed before a flight, and a big shower half way there. Thanks to the homo brother hosties on the plane I got to sit alone for the first leg, and was suitably comatose for the last leg. You know what they say: "economy seats, first class drugs"
Was picked up at the airport by my man and spent the weekend catching up with old friends and new. Yo Flynn! Posto! Had a great night at Joe Pop's Rock Society at a 'Palms' style venue where I will spin in two weeks.
I'm in good hands here! Big hugs to you.

vote for change

Forget the Obama (handsome) and Hilarity (again?) race for a text. Chris Lilley (We Can be Heros / Summer Heights High) has been nominated for the Gold Logie... Kinda like an Aussie Grammy/Bafta. Imagine.
This piece a helpful "how to" demonstration in dispute resolutions.
So do it for Ja'ime…..

Voting can be done right up until 8pm on Logies night, Sunday May 4, by phone or text as follows to vote for Chris Lilley
phone (+61)1902 559 595 OR SMS Chris to (+61) 199 888 99

The 50th Annual TV Week Logie Awards will be announced on Sunday 4 May. Win or lose .. the closing number will actually freak Australia out. I promise.

All the Aussie readers know this toooo well, but now the BBC and HBO will be broadcasting Summer Heights High. Its kinda irrelevant how well he will translate in "overseas", he will make you laugh. Anyone that can inspire a national top ten hit and this ....

... is worth a text right?

scott matthew rules

Seymour, Scott Matthew, Eloise

Scott Matthew played a beautiful gig in Sydney recently. Like many of my musical heros, he played his first show over 12 years ago at my club kooky, and many present at that gig were back to cheer him home. Lucky NYC... we miss him very much!
The great news is that his debut album is out this week. It is a fragile, tender and gentle affair, with nothing noisy (a lil just like me). This release features two tracks from his breakout role in the sextastic film Shortbus."In the end" (featured right here on this blog) and this one....
Here is "little bird"

Check Scott's myspace for European tour dates and where to grab the release.

i loves you people

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras has come and gone. I had my own hall which was truly special. Respect to The Blush Foundation, The Blow Waves, Grafton Primary and Faker. These are the bands (along with Stereogamous) have changed the cultural footprint of homo danceparties forever. No really. Reports to come... Thanks for making it amazing.

Congratulations to my boys The Presets (last years breakthrough Mardi Gras act) hitting the Top 20 this week downunder with the festival call to arms "My People" Watch this space for their newie "This boy's in love" - debuted at this year's party. A contender for nu gay anthem of the year! Wait for the hotter than hot clip. I'll post as soon as I'm allowed to!!!

And to the man who came to Oz and took my heart away ... wow! Those boys are singing what I'm thinking.....

It's Mardi Gras sweeties.
As part of the festivities, Quick and Dirty is the continuation of Performance Space celebrating Queer Performance Culture - all that it was, is and shall be.

In the lineage of cLUB bENT and Taboo Parlour, Quick and Dirty gathers old and new, restaging some original works and premiering current works. Quick and Dirty includes a forum that brings together different generations and perspectives on queer performance. The event takes place at Performance Space - 2pm Saturday, February 23.

nu gay anthem # 2

Tonight we descend on the Oxford Arts Factory for a night of creative hedonism. Teaming up with local DJs, performance artists, dancers and the underground folk legend from NYC Scott Matthew, its time for a faggy arty party.

Scott Matthew had his first ever gig at my club, Kooky back in 1995. We released his first recording on our kooky compilation album. His music is a beautiful mix of folk and arty pop, he recently wrote and performed several songs in John Cameron Mitchell’s film ‘shortbus’. Scott returns to our shores for this special one off performance. Our boy done good.

CODA’s unique instrumental sound mashes elements of rock, electronic, classical and middle eastern flavours. They deliver an epic soundtrack to imaginary landscapes.

DJs for the late shift are nick littlemore (teenager), stereogamous (seymour butz vs paul mac), lovertits plus local boys sounditout with their live PA. XXXtra special Arty Performances on the night by Celia Curtis, Anton, Marnie Palomares and Justin Shoulder.

Scott Matthew plays at Oxford Art Factory from 8pm, tonight, with yours truly.
"in the end" by scott matthew (performed by justin bond)

We all bear the scars.
Yes, we all fail in love.
We all sigh in the dark;
get cut off before we start.

And as the first act begins,
you realize they're all waiting
for a fall, for a flaw,
for the end.

There's a path stained with tears,
could you talk to quiet my fears?
Could you pull me aside,
just to acknowledge that I've tried?

And as your last breath begins,
contently take it in,
because we all get it in
the end.

And as your last breath begins,
you find your demon's your best friend.
And we all get it in
the end
